'Skins' Williams has blood clot in lungs (AP)

The Washington Redskins will open training camp Thursday without offensive lineman Mike Williams, who is out for the year after a blood clot was discovered in his lungs. Williams was a remarkable comeback story a year ago, dropping some 70 pounds as he returned to the NFL after a three-year absence to make the Redskins roster and start eight games.

Unsigned Tebow misses first workout day (AP)

Kyle Orton can't wait for rookie Tim Tebow to sign his contract and help shoulder the load at the Denver Broncos' training camp. Not necessarily to split the snaps or siphon the media attention. Orton has other things in mind for the first-round draft pick who is generating the kind of buzz in Denver that John Elway did as a rookie in 1983.

Raiders sign 1st-round pick McClain (AP)

The Oakland Raiders signed first-round pick Rolando McClain to a contract late Wednesday night, hours before the start of their first training camp practice. McClain, the eighth overall pick in April's draft, is just the third first-round pick to sign a contract and the highest overall pick to do so.

Chargers TE Gates signs 5-year extension (AP)

Antonio Gates has caught plenty of big passes for the San Diego Chargers, and on Wednesday he hauled in the biggest contract ever given to an NFL tight end. Gates agreed to a $36.175 million, five-year contract extension, with $20.4 million guaranteed, according to a person familiar with the deal, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the figures weren't released.
